INVITING PROPOSALS FOR LAUNCHING POST-GRADUATE TEACHING PROGRAMMES (M.Sc./M.Tech.) UNDER NANO SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY INITIATIVE (NSTI)

The Nano Science and Technology Initiative (NSTI) has been launched by the Department of Science and Technology to promote this upcoming and enabling field of science and technology. Under this programme, a good number of research projects have been granted to individual scientists in educational and research institutions. A few Centres of Excellence have also been established to intensify some selected topics of research and developing some specific applications in this field. In order that these, and other nano science and technology programmes in the country, are sustained, promoted and further intensified, we need to have a continuous stream of well-trained students in this field coming out of our higher educational institutions. It has, therefore, been decided to invite proposals for launching Post-Graduate Teaching Programmes (M.Sc./M.Tech.) under NSTI. The Guidelines and Format for application are given below.

Guidelines

  1. Only government funded and government audited institutions shall be eligible for financial support.
  2. These are advanced level courses which should be designed to train students in multidisciplinary areas of Nano Science and Technology (NST).
  3. Other preconditions for getting financial support:-----
    1. a)  University/Institution should have a minimum of 10 faculty members willing to teach the Nano Science & Technology course.
    2. b) They should have the necessary teaching and lab infrastructure for running the course.
  4. Syllabus should be in accordance to the model syllabus to be developed by DST.
  5. Students will be admitted through an all-India selection mechanism to be decided by DST.
  6. The duration of the DST grant will be 5 years. The institution should attach a consent letter from the competent authority in the Institute to fund the course from its own resources after the DST support for 5 years.
